Find the things, make the things:

Technical archaeology, ancient crafts, and curious education.

Welcome to Illmade & Errant! A place for mud! A home for bones! A panoply of pottery, and a medley of metal! Offering archaeological services based on years of experience, heritage crafts based on that archaeology, and education based on all of the aforementioned goodies.

So come on in! Pull up a mossy log and get comfy, we have things to teach you; stories from the soil, skills from the stone age, how who we were then made what we are now, and how the past never really went away.

About Illmade & Errant

What on earth is going on here?

The aim of Illmade & Errant is to connect us to our shared human past. A possibly vague, and somewhat grandiose phrase for a one person operation making string out of nettles and drawing lumps of pottery, but accurate nonetheless!

Archaeological research and academia is important, but it should not be the end-point for our examination of the past. Illmade & Errant was created to bring archaeology to life, and to show how we can continue to shape our world with knowledge dug up from eras long passed.

Who on earth is that?

Illmade & Errant is run almost entirely by Sorren Alsford, a grubby archaeologist with a crafting problem.

Sorren has worked in, studied, and taught archaeology for the last 15 years. From London to Malawi, copper smelting to technical drawing, excavation to folklore, Sorren's love for this field (pun intended) is evident in their commitment to keep learning, and passing on their knowledge to anyone who will listen.
