Services
S. A. Archaeological Services, within Illmade and Errant, offers key specialist services for archaeological research. The main areas in which we operate are listed below, however please don't hesitate to get in touch for other projects for which our skills may be needed!
Finds Drawing
Supplying high quality technical drawings of a range of artefacts, based on archaeological best practice and training.
Research
Contributions to research projects, large and small, institutional and personal.
Post Excavation
Capacity to work on or off-site, with a high level of knowledge of UK archaeology, artefact identification and cataloguing, and more.
Finds drawing
Our finds drawing is based on years of archaeological experience and artefact knowledge, extensive experience of finds drawings for research and publication, and even for private owners to own as a piece of art! Having trained and worked as an archaeologist, Sorren is able to discern key diagnostic details to ensure that any illustration is usable for further investigation even when the artefact is not. These drawings bring out a level of detail which is not achievable with conventional photography, and can be tailored to suit your specific requirements.
Ceramics
Stone and masonry
Highly detailed pieces
Price Guide for finds drawings
Below is a price guide for finds drawings, depending on the size and complexity of the item in question. These prices are a guide only, and may vary depending on other factors, including whether artefacts are able to be sent to my studio to be drawn, or whether on-site work is required. For finds larger than c.60cm a standard hourly rate will apply.
| Price guide | Complexity | Price | |
| Size | Minimal details, for example simple shaped wood or stone, simple and regular geometric patterning, isolated small incised carving, counters and coins with only minimal inscription and figures, ceramics with simple glaze patterns such as stripes, or moulded patterns like pinched rims | Medium details, for example more complex repeating decorations, irregular and amorphous shapes and carving, denser inscriptions, more varied glaze patterns on ceramics, more complex geometric patterns or irregular arcs and naturalistic patterning | High detail, for example, highly ornate and intricate decorative items, complex cut stone, wood, or glass, more minute and dense details, highly decorative glaze patterns and/or carving such as human figures and faces, and natural scenes and elements |

Research
Having trained and worked in archaeology for over 15 years, we are able to contribute to a range of archaeological research projects such as desk based assessments, literature reviews, retrieval of archive materials, and more general archaeological fact finding and summaries.
Post excavation
Having worked extensively within UK archaeology, and with training from the UCL Institute of Archaeology, we are well equipped to conduct post-excavation identification, cleaning, cataloguing, and sorting of excavated assemblages.
Specialising in experimental archaeology, artefact identification, and heritage crafts allow for discerning assessment of archaeological remains with diagnostic features and marks, to then be flagged for potential further specialist assessment.
